Introduction to Ayurveda

Ayurveda, the Sanskrit phrase for “the knowledge of life and longevity”, is one of the oldest and most comprehensive systems of natural healing. It has been practiced in India for over 6,000 years and is considered “the Mother of all healing.” It is based on prevention, health maintenance, rejuvenation and self-realization by cultivating awareness of balance. The wisdom of Ayurveda allows us to create optimal health by focusing on dynamic forces within our own constitution and making conscious lifestyle choices which enhance our well-being. Healing takes place on many levels involving body, mind and spirit.

Introduction to Ayurveda & Yoga

For over 6,000 years, Yogi’s have been practicing Ayurveda and Yoga together. Ancient texts communicate that these two sister sciences are to be practiced together rather than separate. It is only of late in the West that the knowledge of Ayurveda can be learned and applied to the practice of Yoga. This sadhana, or spiritual practice of Ayurveda and Yoga together strengthens the mind, body and Spirit as well as creates space for the mind to be at peace. Given the pre-requisite knowledge of the “Introduction to Ayurveda” workshop, participants will spend most of the workshop experiencing a Vata, Pitta and Kapha yoga practice.
